Wayne Raleigh Wiggins of Eureka, Kansas, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 77. His final round came to a peaceful close, leaving behind a legacy of fairways and fond memories.
He was born on July 25, 1947, in Eureka, Kansas, the son of George Richard and Mabel Ellen (Woods) Wiggins. Wayne was raised in Eureka, developing deep roots in the community and graduating from Eureka High School with the Class of 1965. Following his high school graduation, he furthered his education at Cowley County Junior College for two years, where he likely began to shape his academic and professional path. He then continued his studies at Babson College for two years. Notably, he was among the last class to graduate from Babson College, marking a significant milestone in his educational journey. After completing his schooling, Wayne embarked on his career, starting at Kinney’s Shoes in Springfield, Missouri.
On August 2, 1970, Wayne married Janis Sue Hodgson in Eureka, Kansas. Their union was blessed with one son. They established their first home in Springfield and subsequently moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Wayne transitioned into the banking sector, working for Credit Thrift. His career in banking led them to several other Kansas locations, including Wichita and Emporia, before they finally settled in Ponca City, Oklahoma, in 1978. Wayne dedicated many years to his banking career before retiring in 2005. Following his retirement, Wayne and Sue returned to their beloved hometown of Eureka. While living in Ponca City, he was a member of AMBUCS. Wayne had a passion for the simple pleasures in life, including golfing, fishing, and enjoying a Coors Light. Many a story could be told of good times shared with friends, with a Coors Light in hand. He also enjoyed Berley's cigarettes, and his coffee. He had multiple holes-in-one during his golfing years, a testament to his skill and passion for the sport.
He is survived by his wife, Sue, of the home in Eureka; his son, Travis Wiggins of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and one grandson, Trystan Wiggins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings: Nina Mangano, Frieda Friend, George Wiggins, Martha Fessenden, Fred Wiggins, James Wiggins, and Richard Wiggins; and his beloved nephew, Mike Wiggins.
