Muriel Mattie Cook, of Eureka, died on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at the Eureka Nursing Center, at the age of 90.

She was born on November 2, 1922, in Reece, the daughter of Ira Calvin and Mary Francis (Gentry) Love. She was raised in Reece, Teterville, and Eureka and attended local schools. On May 26, 1942, Mattie was united in marriage to Andrew Jackson Scott Cook, Jr. in Yates Center. To this union, four children were born. Muriel followed Andrew while he was serving in the military and lived with her sister while he was stationed overseas. After his discharge, they made their home in Eureka. Muriel was mostly a homemaker but also worked various jobs. Andrew preceded her in death on December 24, 2006.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry Andrew Cook of Eureka; and Jack Allen Cook of Arvada, Colorado; one daughter, Kathy Jo Strecker of Eureka; eight grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Carl Love of Montezuma; and Leonard Love of Sparta, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers, one sister, and one grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, February 4, 2013 at Koup Family Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation hours are from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., Sunday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Eureka Nursing Center. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
