Mary Frances (Yost) Mann of Eureka, died on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the Eureka Nursing Center in Eureka at the age of 88.
Mary was born on July 24, 1937, in Cedar County near Stockton, Missouri, the daughter of John Henry and Mary Bessie (Hayward) Yost. In her early years, she grew up near Stockton riding in a covered wagon on the back roads to visit family, attending a one room schoolhouse and playing with her dog. When she was around 8 years old the family moved to Eureka where she attended grade school and high school.
Mary met Elliott at a high school dance he was playing at. When they were dating, he went on a trip to Colorado with a friend. While on the trip he wrote her a letter she saved for more than 65 years. They were married on January 8, 1955. She was a stay-at-home mom, sometimes babysitting or doing seamstress work to make extra money. Mary and Elliott bought Mann's IGA and Mary worked there until the fall of 1972 when she went to work at IBP in Emporia and retired from there after 32 years.
She loved to sew, do embroidery work, canning Elliott's gardening goods, go on her annual Christmas shopping trip with co-workers, bowling, Branson trips, an occasional prank at Christmas and following Elliott and band on weekends. But most importantly, spending time with friends and family.
To those of us that called her mom, grandma or grand Mary, we will miss her giving nature, her helping ways and will treasure all the memories she left us.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Terri Hamilton of Eureka and Teresa and husband Mark Hendrickson of Eureka; eight grandchildren, Bridget, Sean, Staci, Amber, Kelli, Ambrea, Beth, and Grace; fourteen great-grandchildren: Jaqlyn, Quaid, Jayte, Aubryn, Colby, Levi, Emma, Logan, Korbin, Natalynn, Gunner, Chason, Sadie, and Sophie; and six great-great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Levi, Piper, Alexander, Delilah, Oliver, and a 7th due this summer; a brother in law, Alfred Mann and a sister in law, Myra Larcom. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a miscarried son; son-in-law, John Hamilton; a grandson, Jay Hamilton; a great-great granddaughter Khloé; brothers: Ed, Eldon, Robert, and Joe and sister-in-law Myrna Magner.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka with Pastor Kevin Yost of the Yates Center Bible Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 P.M., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Great Plains Diabetes (to be used for Camp Discovery, Augusta). Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, PO Box 595, Eureka KS 67045, which is overseeing arrangements. Condolences may be left for the family online, at koupfunerals.com.
