Mark was the third of three children born to Allen and Mary (Tolar) Gober on September 25, 1936, in Beaumont, Texas. He and his parents, brother, and sister lived in rural Jefferson, Texas. Mark went to Ozark Academy in Northwest Arkansas and graduated in 1957. He enlisted in the US Army and served during the Berlin crisis. He treasured his time in the Army and learned a lot there.
On June 24, 1966, Mark was married to Charlene A. Zimmerman at the First Congregational Church in Emporia, Kansas. They lived north of Madison for eight years, then west of Hamilton for nine years, later buying and moving to the Zimmerman home place north of Burkett.
Mark was an autobody repairman and worked for Newton Brothers, Merwin Automotive, Kratzberg Motors and others before opening his own shop on East River Street in Eureka in the late 1970's. A few years later he had the opportunity to buy the shop building at 111 West First where he would spend the rest of his years as a body man and shop owner, retiring in 2001. He greatly enjoyed fishing and hunting. Pond hopping was often the situation for fishing. There were lots of good times and a lot of fish caught from the ponds in the Flint Hills.
Mark is survived by his sister, Bernice Brown of Eureka; his foster daughter, Lisa Brumbaugh of Emporia; and many nieces and nephews. Mark was preceded in death by Charlene on December 10, 2021. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Alden Gober.
