Marjorie Kennedy Matthews of Eureka, died on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the Eureka Nursing Center in Eureka at the age of 96.
She was born on October 30, 1918 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Roy and Cordelia (Craig) Kennedy. She was raised in Wellington and graduated from Wellington High School. On December 5, 1944, Marjorie was united in marriage to Edwin P. Matthews in Wellington. They made their home in Wellington until he was transferred to Alexandria, Louisiana with the military. After his discharge, they lived in Riverton, Wyoming, Farmington, New Mexico, then returned to Wichita. They retired to Eureka in 1974. Edwin preceded her in death in August 1, 2002.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Eureka, the Music Club, the Garden Club, and the Altrurian Club, and was a Choir Director for several choirs in the area. She was also a past president of the Library Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Sally and husband, Michael Taylor, of Arkansas City, Kansas; and Catharine and husband, Wayne Osborn of Shawnee, Kansas; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, Raymond Kennedy, and two sisters, Ruth Kennedy and Mildred Whomans.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Greenwood Cemetery with Reverend Kenneth Baker of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Koup Family Funeral Home is in charge of service arrangements.
