Marilyn L. Culbertson, a beloved lifetime resident of Eureka, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Eureka Nursing Center in her cherished hometown, at the age of 91.
Born in Eureka on June 8, 1933, Marilyn was the dear daughter of Joseph and Nellie Faye (Nighswonger) Loebel. Her life unfolded in Eureka, where she attended local schools and graduated with the Eureka High School Class of 1951. Following her education, Marilyn dedicated her efforts to the Greenwood County Courthouse and later the Eureka Federal Savings and Loan.
On May 19, 1957, she entered into marriage with her beloved Leo “Dale” Culbertson in Eureka, a partnership that blossomed with the arrival of three children. In 1959, she embraced the role of a devoted homemaker and mother. The passage of time brought the loss of Dale, who preceded her in death on November 12, 2021.
Throughout her life's journey, Marilyn possessed a quiet strength and unwavering resilience. She met life's challenges with a steadfast spirit, always finding her way forward. Her inner fortitude served as an unspoken inspiration to those around her.
Marilyn was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eureka, as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary and the Disabled American Veterans auxiliary.
Her memory will be treasured by her children, Teresa Hoover of Wheatland, Wyoming; and Steve Culbertson of Eureka; and her brother, Raymond William “Bill” Loebel, of Topeka, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale; her son, David; and her siblings, Dale Eugene Loebel and Catherine Jane Garner.
A graveside service in remembrance of Marilyn will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at the Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka, with Rev. Linda Pope of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be held at Koup Family Funeral Home on Tuesday, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, PO Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, who are overseeing arrangements. Condolences may be shared with the family online, at koupfunerals.com.
