Maria “Coletta” Vancil, formerly of Severy, died Friday, October 2, 2015, at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, at the age of 88.
She was born August 23, 1927, in Howard, Kansas, to Samuel “Wilbur” and Alvina Catherine Coletta (Loef) Mayne. She was raised in Severy and Eureka, graduating from Severy High School with the class of 1944. On February 5, 1944, she was united in marriage to Howard Leon Vancil in Howard, Kansas. To this union two children were born. After they were married they made their home in Eureka. Later the family lived in California, and El Dorado, Kansas and then in 1953 they moved to Severy. They operated Severy Auto Works, before moving out to the highway to open Severy Auto Salvage. Howard preceded her in death on June 14, 2008.
She is survived by two grandchildren, Steve and wife, Tami Vancil of Fall River; and Kelly Vancil of Severy; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Juanita Redmond of Topeka. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, children, one brother, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 5, 2015, at the Severy United Methodist Church with Pastor Stacy Ellsworth officiating. Interment will follow at South Lawn Cemetery.
