Marcia Borst of Reece, a true cowgirl, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 13, 2025, at her home in Reece. She was 66 years old.
Born on May 1, 1959, in Wichita, Marcia was the daughter of Harold and Eleanor Marie “Ellie” (Hedges) Morton. She grew up with Kansas dirt under her boots in Eureka and Wichita, graduating from Valley Center High School. Her path led her first to a feed store in Wichita, then she moved on to the Sedgwick County Zoo, where she honed her skills in animal husbandry. This experience would serve her well back on the ranch.
On May 2, 1991, Marcia married Shawn Borst in Eureka. Together, they made their home there, and soon had one daughter, Sidnee. Their home was often filled with laughter, the sounds of cattle, and the happy barks of dogs.
Marcia loved her cows, her horses, and her dogs. She cherished being a rancher, finding deep satisfaction in the daily work of tending to the land and its creatures. She had a generous spirit, always ready to lend a hand to a neighbor or share a kind word. The most important thing to her were her grandchildren – Tad, Ellie, and Tobin – who brought her immense joy. She loved photographing deer and other wildlife, and she especially loved riding horses with Sidnee. Marcia always kept busy; her hands were never idle. Working the cattle alongside Shawn and Sidnee was her whole world.
Marcia was a faithful member of On This Rock Church in Eureka. Her faith provided strength and comfort throughout her life.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Shawn, of the home; her daughter, Sidnee, and son-in-law, TJ Gulick, of Eureka; three grandchildren: Tad, Ellie, and Tobin; and two sisters: Michelle Rupe of Medford, New Jersey; and Melinda Bannon of Wichita. She was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind many cherished memories and a legacy of love, hard work, and kindness that will continue to inspire her family.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at 4:00 P.M. on Friday, August 8, 2025, in the Braden Room at the Greenwood County Community Center. Cremation has taken place, and a private family scattering will happen at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to On This Rock Church for their water well project in Africa – a cause close to Marcia's heart. Contributions can be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, PO Box 595, Eureka KS 67045, which is overseeing arrangements. Condolences may be left for the family online at koupfunerals.com. Marcia will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
