Corky Barg
Lois Corriene “Corky” Barg of Eureka, died on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the Eureka Nursing Center, in Eureka, at the age of 85.
She was born on February 12, 1929, on the family farm northwest of Eureka, the daughter of James Harvey and Leta (Wallace) Gray. She attended the Highland and Holverson grade schools and graduated from Eureka High School with the class of 1947. She then went to work at the extension office and a year later at the ASCS office.
On September 13, 1949, she was united in marriage to Frank “Ben” Lore, Jr. They ran the West Side Café and Motel for 15 years until their marriage ended in divorce.
In 1964, she moved to Wichita and attended Central Business College. In July 1965, she went to work for Collingwood Office Systems as secretary and bookkeeper. On October 18, 1969, she was united in marriage to David Barg at the First United Methodist Church in Eureka. They made their home in Eureka buy Corky continued to commute to Wichita to work. She retired in 1992.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the United Methodist Women’s Group. She was an avid golfer at the Eureka Country Club and held the title of Club Champion for nine different years.
She is survived by her husband, David of the home; and one sister, Virginia Glasco of Eureka. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Louise Olmstead, and Denzell Handley; and five brothers, Wallace Gray, Wesley Gray, Robert Gray, Glenn Gray, and Franklin Gray.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church of Eureka with Reverend Kenneth Baker officiating. A private family inurnment will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Eureka. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
