Kenneth Allen Northedge, a man of quiet strength and enduring dignity, passed away peacefully at the Eureka Nursing Center on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. He was 94. A true son of Kansas, he lived his entire life in the Eureka area, leaving a legacy of hard work, dedication, and unwavering loyalty.
He was born on April 9, 1931, in the small community of Utopia, Kenneth was the son of Maurice and Florrie (Allen) Northedge. When he was just a boy, his family moved to Eureka, where he would go on to graduate from Eureka High School with the class of 1950.
In a time of national need, Kenneth answered the call to serve, drafted into the United States Army in September 1952. He was sent to Korea, where he served honorably as a Corporal until 1954. After eight years of dedicated service to his country, he received an honorable discharge. He then embarked on a long and distinguished career with the Kansas Highway Department, a role he held from September 1954 until his retirement in May 1991. For decades, he helped build and maintain the roads that connected his community.
His greatest joy, however, was his marriage to Minnie Jo Dye on August 16, 1960. Together in Eureka, they built a life filled with love, companionship, and shared dreams. Minnie Jo preceded him in death on May 29, 2024, leaving a void that was only now filled by their reunion.
He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, who will cherish the memory of their kind and honorable uncle. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years; his parents; and two younger sisters, Terry Murray, and Nancy Sill.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Greenwood Cemetery, in Eureka.
