Jerry Wayne Milner of Eureka, died on Sunday, October 30, 2016, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 79.
He was born on March 13, 1937, in Virgil, the son of Gaylord C. and Mary (Davis) Milner. He was raised in Virgil and graduated from Virgil High School. He later attended Wichita State University on a basketball scholarship where he played two years before transferring to Washburn University. He played basketball and baseball for Washburn and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Education. On June 23, 1958, Jerry was united in marriage to Phyllis Ann Bratton in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He was the Mulberry Elementary physical education coach for 23 years, retiring in 1969.
He is survived by three sons, Samuel Wayne Milner of Wichita; Daniel Ray Milner of Webb City, Missouri; and Douglas Keith Milner of Kansas City, Missouri; twelve grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and two brothers, Pete and Marion.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M., Friday, November 4, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church, in Eureka with Reverend Kenneth A. Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Virgil Cemetery. Visitation hours are set from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Lion’s Club, to be used for new trees around the ball fields.
