Ivan Gene Black of rural Toronto, died on Friday, January 13, 2017 at his home in rural Toronto, at the age of 88.
He was born on September 4, 1928, in Chanute, the son of William Harvey and Sarah DeEtta (Lightcap) Black. He was raised in Toronto and graduated from Toronto High School. After graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War but was honorably discharged before being deployed. On April 18, 1953, Ivan was united in marriage to Doris Lucile Pendlay in Yates Center. To this union, three children were born. They made their home on a ranch south of Toronto, and remained there for the rest of their lives. Doris preceded him in death on July 21, 2012.
He is survived by three sons, Steven Gayle Black of Topeka; Douglas Harvey Black of Toronto; and Mitchell Zane Black of Rockport, Texas; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two half-brothers, Myron Earl Black and William Orvis “Nub” Black.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Rev. Maureen Olson of the Yates Center Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow at Toronto Cemetery.
