Hamilton Samuel Stevenson, 93, of Eureka, died on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Eureka Nursing Center.
He was born on March 30, 1933, in Hillsboro, Oregon, the son of Hamilton Iadel and Alice Margaret Pauline (Lloyd) Stevenson. One of eleven children, Sam was raised in Brightwood and learned the value of hard work at an early age. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Airborne from 1953 to 1956, before answering a lifelong calling to ranching following his discharge.
In 1985, Sam was united in marriage to Myrtle Lucille Smith in Hillsboro. They made their home in Oregon before later settling in Reece, Kansas, where Sam operated a cattle ranch and tended his pasture for many years. Myrtle preceded him in death on March 3, 2007.
He is survived by his son, Sam Stevenson, Jr. of Hawaii; three siblings: Paulene Peterson of Portland, Oregon, Michael Stevenson of Portland, Oregon, and Sharon McLain of Demorest, Georgia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings: Charlene Wunische, George Stevenson, Pat Sutton, Fred Stevenson, William Stevenson, Marlene Anderson, and Penny Stevens.
Per his wishes, no formal services will be held. Cremation has been effected, and his ashes will be scattered beneath his favorite tree on his pasture in Reece. Koup Family Funeral Home is overseeing arrangements. Condolences may be left for the family online at koupfunerals.com.
