Gladys Pauline Wescott

July 19, 1921 — July 10, 2016

Gladys Pauline Wescott, of Augusta, Kansas, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Lakepoint Nursing and Rehabilition Center in Augusta, at the age of 94.

She was born to Walter Scott and Ruth May (Draper) Marlar of Madison, Kansas, on July 19, 1921. Gladys was employed by St. Margaret’s Mercy Hospital and Fredonia Regional Hospital for over 30 years. She began her employment in October 1954, as a nurse aid, and eventually trained for care in the Obstetrics Department, Purchasing Department, and as an OR/ER/CS Technician to round out her career in nursing care.

On October 5, 1976, Gladys was united in marriage to John C. Wescott and they resided at Toronto Lake until she retired from the hospital. They then moved to Eureka, Kansas. She loved living at Toronto Lake as she was an avid bird watcher and helped any and all animals that needed care. Gladys enjoyed her family and always looked forward to family gatherings. She loved to crochet and made many items to share with family and friends.

Gladys is survived by three daughters, Pat Richardson of Fredonia, Kansas; Ruth Bagby (Wayne) of Augusta, Kansas; and Dee Sumner (Evan) of Dodge City, Kansas; four grandchildren, Anita Martin; Cheryl Sanders; Rita Kuykendall; and Marshall Sumner; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorthey Blanck of Paola, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and four sisters.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, July 25, 2016, at Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka, with Pastor Larry Evans of the Neal Evangelical Free Church officiating. Cremation has been effected.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Arthritis Foundation. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O.
