Elwanda Louise Torrance of Eureka, died on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Eureka Nursing Center, in Eureka, at the age of 95.
She was born on September 24, 1921, in Elk County, the daughter of John H. and Mary E. (Taylor) Samuels. She was raised in Eureka and attended Eureka High School. On October 1, 1939, Elwanda was united in marriage to George Earl Torrance, Jr. They made their home in Eureka. Elwanda was a receptionist for Dr. Baird until his retirement and then worked for Dr. Morris in Eureka. George preceded her in death on November 20, 2006.
She was a member of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church and the Eureka Senior Center.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Torrance of Minco, Oklahoma; and John Torrance of Slidell, Louisiana; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Mary Lou Davis of Arkansas City, Kansas; Janice Peterson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Sharon Lykins of Derby, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Teddy Earl Torrance; and four siblings: Leon Samuels, Jack Samuels, George Samuels, and Dorothy Ball.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Jefferson Street Baptist Church in Eureka, with Pastor John Craighead officiating. Cremation has been effected. A private family inurnment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, at a later date.
