Doris Elaine Burch

Doris Elaine Burch, of Emporia, formerly of Eureka, died at Holiday Resort, in Emporia, on July 2, 2015, at the age of 92.
She was born in Eureka on October 14, 1922, the daughter of Otis and Florence (McCready) Ward. She attended Eureka schools and graduated from Eureka High School with the class of 1942. After her schooling, she worked as a PBX Telephone operator. In the mid 1940’s Doris worked as the receptionist at Basham Hospital. She was then a homemaker in the early 1950’s while her children were young. In the early 1960’s she managed Carriage House Motel until her retirement in the early 1970’s.
On June 26, 1942, Doris was united in marriage to Clarence W. Burch in Eureka. He preceded her in death on July 12, 2005.
Doris was a member of the First Christian Church, Sweet Adeline’s, and the VFW Post 2712 Auxiliary.
She is survived by one son, Laymon Burch of Box Elder, South Dakota; two daughters, Mindy Sadowski of Emporia; and Marta Harriger; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, and one sister.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at Greenwood Cemetery, with Mr. Jayme Koup officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Eureka Junior/Senior High School Music Department. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
