C. A. Long
Carl Alexander Long, of Eureka, died on April 24, 2015 at his residence in Eureka at the age of 90.
C.A. was born on March 26, 1925 in Council Grove, Kansas the son of, Joseph Daniel and Myrle (Alexander) Long. C.A. was raised in Council Grove attending local schools until the family moved to Dodge City where he graduated. After his graduation he joined the United States Navy serving during the Pacific Theater during WWII. C.A. then went to work for Denham and Long Oil Company. In 1970 he moved to Eureka and bought Moore Abstract.
In 1951 he was united in marriage to Barbara Paul in Dodge City. She preceded him in death in 1994. He then was united in marriage to Barbara Zink Lewis on May 31, 1997 in Eureka, Kansas.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka, the Eureka Foundation and Coutts Museum in El Dorado. He was a member of The Friends of the Library, Eureka Federal Savings and Loan and past President of the Kansas Title Association. He was a former member and officer of The First Presbyterian Church of Dodge City and a former member of the Christ Lutheran Church of Eureka.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara of the home; children, LouAnn and husband, Mike Law of Lancaster, MA; Amy and husband, Charles Hall of Olivet, KS; Audrey Lewis of Eureka; Shannon Buck of Jackson, MS; Julie and husband, Mike Bowline of Denver, CO; Shane Lewis of Los Angeles, CA; and Sybil and husband, Bryan Benson of Libertyville, IL; fourteen grandchildren, Scott, Steven and Brian Law; Nathan, Heather and Matthew Hall; Alex, Lauren and Becky Lewis; Rachel Deon; Cory Bowline; Ty and Anna Benson; and Brett Buck; 14 great-grandchildren; and ten nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Barbara and two sisters, Jean Owens and Margaret Lyn Moore.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M., Friday, May 1, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church of Eureka, with Reverend Kenneth Baker officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date. A reception will be held for relatives and friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Thursday at the Greenwood Hotel.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to First United Methodist Church or to the Eureka Public Library. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
