ABE CHADDERDON

Abe Chadderdon, of Eureka, died on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the Greenwood County Hospital, in Eureka, at the age of 88.

He was born in Le Seuer County, Minnesota on May 21, 1926, the son of Richard and Mary (Schultz) Chadderdon. Abe was raised in Le Center, Minnesota, and attended local schools. At the age of seventeen he enlisted in the United States Army, and served his country during World War II with honor and dignity. He was discharged in 1946, but was recalled for a year in 1952.
On January 11, 1947, Abe was united in marriage to Mary Lou Rutt in Shakpe, Minnesota. The family farmed in Minnesota until his recall to the Army. After his discharge he worked in a lumber yard In Minnesota. In 1954, the family moved to Wagner, South Dakota where he managed a lumber yard. In 1957, they moved to Chamberlain, South Dakota where he once again worked at a lumber yard. In 1963, he started his own construction company in Chamberlain. In 1977, the family moved to Eureka where he and Mary Lou owned and operated the Blue Stem Lodge until 1987, when they retired for the first time, and moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas. Four years later in 1991, they resumed operation of the Blue Stem Lodge. In 2002, they retired for the second and final time.

Abe is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, of the home; children, Charlotte Chadderdon of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Donna Loveland of Onalaska, Wisconsin; Bonnie Kaufman of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Abie Chadderdon of Marshalltown, Iowa; Cindy Wood of Ukiah, California; and Marilee Clites of Kansas City, Kansas; eighteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sisters, Grace Boese of Upland, California; and Ruth Fredrickson of Le Center, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and two sisters.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at Koup Family Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Wood of the First Baptist Church of Ukiah, California officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the United Methodist Women of Eureka or the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
