February 2, 1926 - April 9, 2021
Mary Martha Brown of Eureka, died Friday, April 9, 2021, at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, at the age of 95. She was born February 2, 1926, in rural Greenwood County, the daughter of Albert B. and Tammie May (Bair) Stuber. She was raised in the rural Eureka area and attended local schools, graduating from Climax High School. On June 9, 1945, she was united in marriage to Willis Earl Brown of Eureka, where they made their home and raised their family. To this union, three children were born: Billy Gene, Bobby Dean, and Betty Jane. Mary Martha was a proud farmer’s wife, working as a secretary with Farm Bureau for 20 plus years in Eureka; and as a bookkeeper at the Eureka Thriftway/G & W Foods. After thirty-three years, she put down her pencil and retired at eighty-eight years old. Mary Martha loved the farm, her flowers and gardening. She loved her family and was happiest when she could cook a big meal for those she loved. It was not uncommon for her to put a full meal together including dessert, in a few minutes for anyone who just dropped in unexpectedly or for the weekend. She was a member of the Christian & Congregational Church, Greenwood County Farm Bureau, as well as being a school bus driver, 4-H Cooking Leader, and working at the Greenwood County Courthouse. Mary Martha is survived by one son, Bobby D. and wife, Janice Brown of Eureka; one daughter, Betty J. and husband, Gary Schnoebelen of Wichita; four grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Peggy Brown of Gillette, Wyoming; one sister, Vera Mae (Stuber) Nichols of Overland Park, Kansas; and a host of nieces and nephews, as well as many valued friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willis E. Brown; son, Billy G. Brown; grandson, Heath D. Brown; three brothers; and three sisters. Funeral services are set for 2:00 P.M., Friday, April 16, 2021, at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka, with Mr. Judd Everitt officiating. Masks should be worn and social distancing observed. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation hours are set from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Greenwood County Hospital Foundation. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O.
