Jack Charles Patterson, of Hamilton, died at Medicalodge of Eureka on Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at the age of 83. He was born on August 17, 1919, in Lindsay, Oklahoma, the son of Charles Olander and Nettie Lou (Morgan) Patterson. He was raised in the Lindsay/Lawton area, and graduated from Cache High School. He then attended Cameron College in Lawton. After his schooling he entered the United States Navy as a pilot and flight instructor and served his country with honor and distinction during World War II. On May 3, 1942, Jack was united in marriage to Gladys Marie Baker in Corpus Christi, Texas. After his discharge they made their home in SW Oklahoma. In the late 1940’s he was recalled into the Navy as a Command Pilot during the Berlin Airlift. Upon his return the family moved to SE Kansas where Jack owned a dairy farm and sheep ranch. In 1958 the family moved to Piedmont where he operated a cattle ranch. In 1976 the family moved to Hamilton when Gladys accepted the position of postmaster in the Hamilton Post Office. Jack commuted from Hamilton to Piedmont and continued ranching until Gladys’s death on August 4, 1991. Jack was a member of the Cache, Oklahoma Masonic Lodge. He is survived by one son, Rex Patterson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, four daughters, Kay Groh of Emporia, Kansas, Patty Lou Gonzales of Livingston, Texas, Jackie Lalicker of Gage, Oklahoma, and Jo Ann Williams, of Hutchinson, Kansas, twelve grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, April 12, 2003, at the Koup Family Funeral Home with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Piedmont Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made in his name to the Hamilton Public Library or the Hamilton School Library.
