Jack Milton Berry

August 22, 1924 - May 28, 2003

Jack Milton Berry of Eureka, died at the Lakepoint Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Augusta on Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at the age of 78. He was born in Greenwood County, Kansas, on August 22, 1924, the son of Lloyd and Nellie Opal (Carter) Berry. He was raised in the Eureka area and graduated from Eureka High School with the class of 1942. In 1944 he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country with honor and distinction in the South Pacific during World War II. In 1956, Jack was united in marriage to Juanita Hellman. Jack made his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he worked for American Airlines. He later moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he continued working in aviation. In the late 1970s, he worked for the United States government surveying the Alaskan pipeline. Jack retired in 1986 and moved back to Eureka. In 1991, Juanita preceded him in death. Jack loved his dogs, was a big NASCAR fan, played golf, and was enthusiastic about aviation all his life He is survived by one son, Steve Berry of Wichita, one daughter, Christine (Marlar) Berry of Eureka, four grandchildren, two sisters, Virginia McCullough of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Marilyn Crichton of Dallas, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. Graveside services were held at Greenwood Cemetery on June 2, 2003, at 2:00 P.M. with the VFW officiating. A memorial has been established in his name with the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, who was in charge of service arrangements.
