Hazel Hope Tomlinson

September 30, 1909 - February 20, 2003

Hazel Hope Tomlinson, of Eureka, died at the Greenwood County Hospital on Thursday, February 20, 2003, at the age of 93. She was born in southern Greenwood County, Kansas, on September 30, 1909, the daughter of Jay Thomas and Ecile Emily (O’Byrne) Raber. She was raised in Greenwood County and attended Farmington Rural School. On January 18, 1927, Hazel was united in marriage to Charles “Pete” Tomlinson in Howard, Kansas. They made their home in the Kansas City/Bonner Springs, Kansas area for a few years before moving to a farm south of Eureka. Pete farmed and worked with heavy equipment and Hazel was a farm wife and homemaker. In the late 1940’s the family moved to Eureka. On July 19, 1968, Pete preceded her in death. In 1969 Hazel began working in the cafeteria at Greenwood County Hospital. She retired in 1974. Hazel was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Charles Drollinger of Maize, Kansas, two granddaughters and their husbands, Randi and Scott Bunn of Wichita and Shannon and Lyle Smith of Canton, Georgia, one great-grandchild and husband, Michelle and Barry Carter of Wichita, and three great-granchildren Amy, Lisa, and Geoff Smith of Canton, Georgia, and one great-great-grandson, Tanner Carter of Wichita. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 25, 2003, at Koup Family Funeral Home with Mr. Don Stice officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. A memorial has been established in her name to the First United Methodist Church. Contributions may be sent in care of the Koup Family Funeral Home, which was in charge of service arrangements.
